1. Who We Are
Rescue Fitter ("we", "us", "our") operates as a software-based dispatch technology platform connecting stranded motorists with independent mobile tyre fitters across the United Kingdom. Our website is rescuefitter.co.uk.
We are committed to protecting your personal data and complying with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
2. Data We Collect and Why
We collect only the personal data necessary to provide our dispatch service:
Vehicle Registration Mark (VRM)
We collect your vehicle registration plate to query the DVLA vehicle specification database and identify the correct tyre size and fitment requirements for your vehicle. This data is used solely for the purpose of sourcing the correct replacement tyre.
GPS Location Coordinates
We collect your precise GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude) to identify your breakdown location and dispatch the nearest available independent mobile tyre fitter to your position. Location data is stored with your job record and is accessible to the assigned fitter to navigate to you.
Mobile Phone Number
We collect your mobile telephone number solely to send transactional SMS updates about your booking via our SMS provider, Twilio Inc. These messages include dispatch confirmations, fitter en-route notifications, and job status updates. We do not use your mobile number for marketing purposes without your explicit consent.
Payment Information
We process payments via Stripe, Inc., a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment processor. Rescue Fitter does not store, transmit, or have access to your raw credit or debit card data at any point. All card data is handled exclusively by Stripe. We retain a Stripe Payment Intent reference for the purpose of billing records and dispute resolution.
Usage Data
We may collect standard server log data (IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps) for security monitoring and platform diagnostics. This data is not linked to your personal identity.
3. Legal Basis for Processing
We process your personal data under the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b) UK GDPR): processing your VRM, location, and phone number is necessary to fulfil the dispatch service you have requested.
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR): server log analysis for platform security and fraud prevention.
- Legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c) UK GDPR): retention of payment records as required by HMRC and applicable financial regulation.
4. Data Sharing
We share your personal data only with the following parties, and only to the extent necessary:
- Assigned Fitter: Your precise GPS location, vehicle details, and mobile phone number are shared securely via a temporary portal with the independent fitter dispatched to assist you.
- Twilio Inc.: Your mobile number is passed to Twilio solely to deliver transactional SMS notifications.
- Stripe Inc.: Your payment card details are passed directly to Stripe to process your Priority Dispatch Fee.
- Vehicle Data Global Ltd: Your VRM is submitted to our approved third-party API provider (Vehicle Data Global) to query the DVLA database and retrieve vehicle specifications.
We do not sell, rent, or disclose your personal data to third-party marketers or data brokers under any circumstances.
5. Data Retention
Job records (including VRM, location, and phone number) are retained for a maximum of 24 months from the date of your booking, after which they are securely deleted. Completion photographs are automatically purged after 14 days. Payment records are retained for 7 years as required by HMRC financial record-keeping obligations.
6. Cookies
Rescue Fitter uses strictly necessary cookies and browser localStorage to maintain your session state (for example, to recover your live booking if you lose your internet connection). We do not use advertising, tracking, or profiling cookies. No consent is required for strictly necessary cookies under the UK PECR, however we display a cookie information banner for transparency.
7. Your Rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you (Subject Access Request)
- Rectification of inaccurate data
- Erasure ("right to be forgotten") where there is no overriding legal obligation to retain
- Restriction of processing in certain circumstances
- Portability of your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at hello@rescuefitter.co.uk. We will respond within 30 days as required by law.
8. Complaints
